Eastmont Neighborhood Council has worked hard to clean up the Bancroft Medians with a goal of transforming them into active green space for Eastmont residents.

In Fall 2022, Eastmont Neighborhood Council submitted a proposal to develop the Bancroft Medians for greenspace as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Criteria for the program includes Equity, Health/Safety, Economy, Environment, Existing Conditions, Improvement, Project Readiness, Collaboration, and Required Work.

In 2023 our submission was within the Bancroft Greenway project's scope and recommended for funding in the FY 2023-2025 CIP Budget under the Complete Streets Capital program.

Our proposal was a redesign of the medians 2.3 miles as greenspace that residents and tourists alike can walk through and take in native plants and take a stroll or run.

We hope a redesign of the medians can be seen as an opportunity to introduce more commerce to our neighborhood by repurposing the medians as a venue for pop-up businesses trying to get a brick-and-mortar foothold in the community or have the medians used to create small marketplaces and farmstands that work with the community gardens or a community plaza.
